Bhubaneswar, April 30: Odisha has reported 8,681 new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, the highest one-day surge since the break of the pandemic in the State.
The State also reported 4,679 fresh recoveries and 14 deaths during the same period, the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department informed on Friday.
With the fresh infections, COVID-19 single-day count in Odisha breached 8000-mark for the second time in three days. It may be noted that the State had reported 8,386 cases on April 28 and 6,998 cases on April 29, respectively.
Now, the positive tally in the State surged to 4,44,194 while the death toll stood at 2,043. The State has 61,698 active cases, while 3,80,400 patients have recovered from the disease, added the H&FW Department.
Of the new cases reported from 30 districts, 4,948 were detected from various quarantine centres, and the rest 3,733 were detected during contact tracing.
Out of the 14 deaths, three each deaths were registered in Koraput and Sundargarh, two each in Rayagada and Khordha, and one each in Sambapur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Ganjam, informed the State H&FW Department.
Khurda district, of which State capital Bhubaneswar is a part, continued to be the worst hit district with maximum 1,408 cases, followed by Sundergarh at 745, Cuttack at 570, Puri 514.
At least 19 other districts recorded more than 100 cases. Those are – Bolangir (459), Bargarh (423), Angul (419), Jharsuguda (411), Sambalpur (410), Nabarangpur (368), Jajpur (321), Nuapada (304), Mayurbhanj (220), Ganjam (198), Kalahandi (195), Nayagarh (160), Balasore (155), Rayagada (151), Keonjhar (148) Gajapati (125), Koraput (113), Bhadrak (103) and Deogarh (102).
Other districts which reported less than 100 cases are – Sonepur (98), Kendrapada (85), Boudh (57), Kandhamal (54), Malkangiri (34), Dhenkanal (33) and Jagatsinghpur (21).
As many as 1,00,86,656 samples were tested in the State so far, including 45,452 on Thursday. The State’s positivity rate stands at 4.4 per cent.
