Bhubaneawar, May 23: Odisha on Sunday reported highest-ever single-day surge in new virus infections and mortalities with as many as 12,852 people being tested positive for COVID-19 and 28 people succumbing to the virus dying in the last 24 hours.
As per the State Health Department, 7,195 people were tested positive from quarantine centres while 5,657 cases were local infections.
Khurda district, of which State capital Bhubaneawar is a part, remains the worst-hit district in terms of both infections at 1,909 and fatalities at five. Kalahandi and Sundargarh districts reported four deaths each while Angul and Kendrapara witnessed three mortalities each.
Cuttack remained in second position with 1,073 infections followed by Angul with 874 cases and Sundargarh with 848 positives.
The total number of fatalities in the State has now mounted to 2,484 while the cumulative infections have climbed to 6,92,382. Total recoveries remain at 5,77,983 and the active cases have stood at 1,11,862.
