Sambalpur/Bhubaneswar, December 12: After eight hours of gruelling efforts, a newborn baby, reportedly dumped in a 20- 25 feet borewell in Rengali area of Sambalpur district has been rescued successfully.
A newborn was reportedly found stuck in an open borewell at Laripali in the Rengali area of Sambalpur on Tuesday. As soon as the matter came to the fore, a massive operation was launched to rescue the infant. In view of possible suffocation, oxygen was also pumped into the well from the top
A victim location camera was sent from Bhubaneswar on a special flight to Jharsuguda. From Jharsuguda, the camera was sent to the spot.
Fire Services, ODRAF personnel along with three excavator machines undertook digging alongside the borewell to reach the infant and successfully rescued the infant.
As soon as the infant was taken out of the borewell pipe, it was immediately shifted to the hospital with the help of an ambulance that was kept on standby.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed happiness over the safe rescue.
“Every life is precious. I am happy that the entire State machinery is working with the guiding principle,” tweeted Patnaik.
The Chief Minister has also congratulated the rescue teams – the ODRAF, Fire Services, Sambalpur district administration, police, medical team and praised their coordinated efforts.
