Bhubaneswar, July 29: Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Tuesday met Union Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi and urged him to sanction a Central assistance of around 31,570 crore to accelerate modernization of Odisha’s grid infrastructure.

Singh Deo, who also holds the Energy portfolio, also requested the Union Power Minister for full allocation of 800 MW from NLC Talabira Phase-II, in addition to the 400 MW already allocated from Phase-I.

“I highlighted Odisha’s focused roadmap for resilient and inclusive power sector growth. I urged early sanction of ₹3,069 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), already recommended by the Central Electricity Authority and PFC, to accelerate modernization of Odisha’s grid infrastructure,” Singh Deo posted on ‘X’.

Singh Deo said, “I emphasized the urgent need for Central Financial Assistance towards cyclone-resilient underground cabling infrastructure, especially up to 30 km from the coast. The estimated ₹28,500 crore investment proposed by CDRI will safeguard lives and ensure uninterrupted power even during extreme weather events.”

“I also requested full allocation of 800 MW from NLC Talabira Phase-II, in addition to the 400 MW already allocated from Phase-I. As the host state for the 3,200 MW Talabira project, Odisha deserves a proportionate share to meet its expanding energy demands,” he added.

“These strategic requests represent our commitment to powering Odisha with foresight, equity, and resilience. I look forward to continued cooperation with the Centre to realize this vision for a progressive and secure energy future,” Singh Deo asserted.
