Odisha: Crorepati Kamakhyanagar Sub-Collector arrested in DA case

Bhubaneswar, November 19: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested Kamakhyanagar (Dhenkanal district) Sub-Collector Narayan Chandra Nayak, a Class-I officer, in connection with disproportionate assets case, a day after his properties were being searched by the anti-corruption wing officials.

According to a Vigilance communiqué, Nayak was found in possession of 14 high value plots, of which seven are located at prime locations in Bhubaneswar, six in Bhadrak, and one in Pipili in Puri district, gold weighing 366 grams, Rs 1.48 lakh of cash, and other deposits and investments to the tune of Rs 34.57 lakh.

On Monday, Vigilance sleuths conducted searches at multiple locations in Khurda, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj districts, including in Bhubaneswar.

So far, vigilance officers have unearthed an under-construction triple-storey building at Jharpada in Bhubaneswar, a single-storey building at the same location, a three-storey building at Kuansa and a two-storey building at Gelpur, both in Bhadrak district.

Other places where the vigilance conducted searches include Nayak’s office chamber at Kamakhyanagar, Government quarters, parental house at Kapagaria, Basudevpur in Bhadrak district, a relative of Nayak at Barunai, Bhadrak, and a house of his associate at Joragadia in Bhandaripokhari.

According to vigilance, Nayak is a 1997-batch Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer. He first joined as an officer in the Settlement Office in Kalahandi and then as an Additional Tehsildar at the same place for five years. He served as BDO in Khariar, Dasarathpur, and Balianta between 2014 and 2023. He was promoted to OAS (SB) cadre in 2021 and OAS (S) in 2023, respectively.
