Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday unanimously resolved to move the Central Government that a socio-economic enumeration be conducted simultaneously along with General Census in 2021.

“The State Cabinet has unanimously resolved that a Socio-Economic Caste Enumeration be conducted simultaneously along-with the General census, either by inserting suitable columns in the Census format or by prescribing a separate format for a simultaneous enumeration of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) and Other Backward Classes/Castes (OBC),” said Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Law Minister Pratap Jena after the Cabinet meeting at the Lok Seva Bhavan here.

It was also resolved to impress upon the Central Government to ensure that these enumeration details are published without any delay, added the Minister.

“This shall enable State Government to accelerate the pace of development of these eommunities leading to inclusive growth with greater momentum,” added Minister Jena.

“As we commemorating the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, this will be a fitting tribute to this idea of India guided by his Talisman in which the welfare of the poorest and the weakest becomes the core objective of the State,” added the Minister.
