BJD bags 15 ULBs in W Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday swept
a clear majority by winning 15 municipalities and notified area councils (NACs)
out of 20 ULBs in the second phase of urban local body (ULB) polls in western
Odisha.

The Opposition
Congress has managed to score majority only in Barpali NAC of Bargarh district
while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured majority only in Patnagarh NAC
of Balangir district, the home town of party president KV Singhdeo.
Expressing satisfaction over the victory, Chief Minister
Naveen Patnaik said, “This is a tremendous victory for our party in western
Odisha.”
In the first phase of
ULB polls held on September 19, of the 65 urban local bodies, the BJD bagged a
majority in as many as 41 ULBs, while Congress won a majority in 10 civic
bodies, and Independents managed to win in a majority of wards in two ULBs.
The ruling BJD has bagged Bhawanipatna, Sundargarh
municipality, NACs at Binka and Tarabha of Subarnapur district, Khariar Road of
Nuapada district, Tarabha NAC in Subarnapur, Junagarh NAC in Kalahandi, Bargarh
municipality, Biramitrapur municipality of Sundergarh district, Kuchinda NAC of
Sambalpur , Sonepur municipality of Subarnapur, Kantabanji NAC of Bolangir, Deogarh
municipality of Deogarh, Jharsuguda municipality and Brajarajnagar municipality
while Congress bagged Barpali NAC of Bargarh district.
However, not a single party obtained majority at Rajgangpur
municipality of Sundergarh, Kesinga NAC of Kalahandi and Khariar NAC of Nuapada
