Familiarization drive for fire personnel held at Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar, April 17: An airport familiarization
and joint exercise was conducted at Biju Patnaik International Airport for the
selected group of State Fire service personnel on Friday. This was a half-day
exercise covering the familiarisation with the airport facilities, operations
of the Airport Fire Service, handling of appliances, rescue and fire fighting
procedures, building fire protection system, etc. 
The State Fire Service personnel and appliances were
deployed for detailing the operations of Airport Fire Service in case of any
emergency at the airport.
“It is essential that the State Fire Service
personnel are familiarized with the airport and system/appliances which are
being used by the Airport Fire Service. This helps immensely in instilling
confidence in them in operating Airport Fire Service equipment; understanding
the operating limits of the appliances and developing an effective teamwork
whenever required during an emergency situation at the airport,” said a Press
release issued by the airport authorities.
Rajan, Manager (FS), AAI said that this
familiarisation and joint exercise vastly helped in developing and
understanding for each-others capabilities and co-ordinating in an effect way
during any unforeseen emergency situation.

N. Jena, Assistant Station Officer, Odisha Fire
Service, who was present for the exercise with a group of fire personnel,
maintained that this was a new experience for them and they have gained insight
into the new technology appliances and techniques which are applied in aviation
rescue and fire fighting.

Airport Director Sharad Kumar also hailed the Odisha
Fire Service personnel.
