Bhubaneswar, November 18: The Navanirman Krusak Sangathan, a
farmers’ body fighting for the cause of peasants in Odisha, has threatened to
launch a Jail Bharo Andolan on Thursday (November 19) coinciding with the BJD’s
mass farmers’ rally in Bargarh district, in protest against the State
Government’s failure in tackling the drought-like situation and preventing farmers
from committing suicides.
The farmers’ body also protested the arrest of seven farmer
leaders for intercepting Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy’s car in
Jagatsinghpur district on Sunday.
Sangathan State convenor Akhaya Kumar said the body would
launch the Andolan in protest against the arrest of the farmer leaders and the
State Government’s inaction to address the rising farmer suicides and also to
put a pressure on the Government.
He also termed the proposed Chasi Samavesh of the ruling BJD
at Sohela in Bargarh district as a farce.
