Bhubaneswar, July 16: Even as the Khordha Child Welfare
Committee (CWC) on Saturday directed the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate
police to trace “missing” wonder boy Budhia Singh (14), a regional TV channel here
revealed that Budhia along with his mother is now holidaying in Tamil Nadu
thereby bringing a relief to the State Government who was clueless about the
boy since June second week.
Budhia, who ran a record-breaking 65 km from Puri to
Bhubaneswar in seven hours and two minutes in 2006 at the age of four and found
a place in the Limca Book of Records, has put the State Government in a fix by not
returning to the Government-run Sports Hostel here since its reopening after
summer vacation last month.
While talking to the TV channel Budhia’s mother Sukanti
Singh said that they were now in Tamil Nadu for holidaying.

“We have left Bhubaneswar on June 25. First, we came to
Mumbai. Now, we are in Tamil Nadu and will return Bhubaneswar in 10-15 days,”
said Sukanti Singh
On Saturday, a day after the Sports and Youth Services
Department reported to the CWC that it has no idea about the wonder boy Budhia
Singh, the CWC directed the Nayapalli police here to trace the boy as soon as
The CWC too served a notice to movie producer Subhamitra Sen
asking him for a reply about Budhia in three days too. Sen is producing a film
‘Budhia Singh – Born To Run’ based on the life of Budhia.
Last week, the CWC had served a notice to the Sports and
Youth Services Department seeking a detailed report on Budhia’s alleged
“missing” in three days.
“Since it is very sensitive case we have directed the police
to trace Budhia. We have also served notice the movie producer asking him to
make us know if he takes Budhia within three days,” said Khordha CWC Member
Benudhar Senapati.
Earlier Sports and Youth Services Secretary Saswat Mishra
quoting the boy’s elder sister said that Budhia and his mother have gone to
Nayagarh to attend a marriage party. It was also alleged that teh son-mother
duo is in Mumbai for promotion of the film on Budhia.
The State Government has been paying for the wonder boy’s
study, training and other facilities since he was separated from his deceased coach
Biranchi Das a decade ago after a controversy.
