Bhubaneswar,
Oct 22: A day after the State Government removed Institute of Media Sciences
and SUM Hospital (IMSSH) in Bhubaneswar from the list of empanelled hospitals
following the fire mishap that has claimed 26 lives so far, the hospital
authorities on Saturday sought cooperation from the Government for restoration
of normalcy in patient treatment care and teaching.
“There
are 650 MBBS and 150 post-graduate students studying in IMSSH while 400 students
are study in the Institute of Dental Sciences while 1,000 students are pursuing
their courses in the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and SUM Nursing
College besides 60 students of Masters in Hospital Administration,” said a IMSSH
communiqué.
“The
closure of the Sardar Rajas Medical College has been an example as to how the
future of medical students could plunge into uncertainty.  It should not happen here. As many as 41 students
of the Sardar Rajas Medical College are studying at the IMSSH now following an
order of the Supreme Court and the direction of the state government,” it
stated.
“It
is essential for restoration of normal patient care and treatment in the Sum
Hospital as it is a must for medical education. We look forward to the guidance
of the state government and different regulatory agencies in this regard. We
will follow the instructions and suggestions of the authorities for achieving
this goal,” it added.
“As
on October 22, 2016, altogether 669 patients are being treated in different
wards of the hospital. Besides, 820 patients visited the Out Patient Department
(OPD) during the day. The present and future of the students studying in IMSSH
are of paramount importance to us,” it added.
