2,000 from Odisha to join National Tribal Carnival

Bhubaneswar,
Oct 22: Around 2,000 tribals from Odisha would attend the first National Tribal
Carnival to be held in New Delhi from October 25 to 28.
The
carnival is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the
Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium at 4 pm on October 25 in the presence of Union
Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and many other tribal delegates from across
the country.
Activities
like displaying documents on traditional socio-culture aspects, exhibition of
art/artifacts, cultural performances, demonstration of skills like sports,
paintings and traditional healing practices would be part of the four day event,
said a PIB statement.
Workshop
on issues like Panchayats (Extension to the Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 (PESA),
Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006 and its implications and reservation in politics
and recruitment would also be part of the carnival.
Around
15,000 tribal delegates from across the country are expected to take part in
the carnival.
Besides
the Prime Minister, the event will also see the participation of the State Chief
Ministers, tribal MPs, former BJP MPs and MLAs from tribal dominated
constituencies, sitting tribal MPs, BJP State presidents of ST cell.
Beside,
eminent tribal personalities who have excelled in various fields of sports, art
and culture, literature, academic, medicine are also invited.
