Balasore, Bolangir medical colleges to start from 2018

Bhubaneswar, October 26, 2017: The
construction works of the proposed Government medical colleges at Balasore and
Bolangir have been expedited, and they would start teaching MBBS courses from
the 2018-19 academic year, informed Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.
Almost all construction works like lecture
theatre, examination hall, central library, hostel, residential quarter, wards
for different departments, OPD, operation theatre, ICU, laboratory, and
Computer laboratory of the two proposed medical colleges have neared completion.
This was revealed at a review meeting
chaired by the Chief Secretary.
The Chief Secretary directed to
complete all construction works by October-end. A total of Rs 392 crore has
been estimated to be spent for the purpose. Of the total amount the State
Government and the Central Government would bear Rs 261 crore and Rs 131 crore,
respectively.
The Chief Secretary directed to
construct water conservation and solar energy systems on rooftops of the two
medical colleges.
Health and Family Welfare Secretary
Pramod Kumar Meherda, NHM Director Salini Pandit, Energy Secretary Hemant Kumar
Sharma, Works Secretary Nalinikant Pradhan and Housing and Urban Development
Secretary G Mathivathanan were present.  
Recently, two new medical colleges,
Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital at Koraput and Pandit
Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital at Baripada in Mayurbhnaj, have
already started operations from the current academic year.
