Shaktikanta Das appointed as India’s G 20 Sherpa

New Delhi, November 27, 2017: Former Department of
Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as India’s G 20
Sherpa. He will hold the position till December 31, 2018 for the Development
Track of the G20.
There are two tracks in G 20- Finance Track and
Development Track. Finance Track is managed by the Secretary (Economic Affairs)
as India’s Deputy to G 20 and the Development Track is coordinated by the
Sherpa. The Department of Economic Affairs will provide necessary support to
the Sherpa.
In May this year, Economic Affairs Secretary
Shaktikanta Das retired after serving the Government for 37 years in various
capacities.
During his long career, Das, a 1980-batch IAS, served
as Secretary of the Industries Department of Government of Tamil Nadu, Chairman
and Director of Tamil Nadu Newsprint And Papers Ltd., Chairman and Director of
Titan Company Limited, Chairman of Tamil Nadu Petroproducts Ltd., Director at
Life Insurance Corporation of India, Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corp.
Ltd., Non-Executive Director at Indian Bank, Director of Southern Petrochemical
Industries Corporation Limited and Tamil Nadu Industrial Explosives Ltd.
He also served as the Additional Director of
Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited.
