Bhubaneswar, March 22, 2018: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on
Thursday inaugurated the much-awaited Kala Bhoomi- Odisha Crafts Museum in Pokhariput
The Kala Bhoomi – Odisha Crafts Museum marks a golden chapter
in the State’s cultural history and will play a vital role in preserving and
promoting our heritage and traditions, said Patnaik.

The museum will be a showcase of Odisha to the outer world.
Spread over 12.68 acres, it has eight galleries exhibiting the rarest and
finest crafts and handloom traditions of the State.

“Visitors nationally and internationally will get up close
with the glorious cultural heritage and the unique and vastly diverse
craftsmanship of our state. Besides, it will be a valuable resource centre for
researchers, historians and even designers to study and learn more about
Odisha’s art, craft and weaves,” said the Chief Minister.
The CM took the opportunity to appeal to the people to make
use of our own handloom and handicrafts products more and more in daily lives,
occasions and ceremonies. He further urged the people to gift such items to
popularize our culture and promote our weavers and artisans.
On the occasion, the CM also launched the Odisha Handloom and
Handicrafts Development and Promotion Council which will work for all-round
growth and welfare of the artisan and weaving communities of Odisha.
Led by eminent personalities from the sector, the council
will strive to popularize our arts and crafts globally and create greater
opportunities for livelihood for more than 3.2 lakh weavers and artisans in the
State through skill-development, skill upgradation and promotion.
