Dalmia Cement supports Gurugram father-daughter duo to scale Mt. Vinson in Antarctica

Gurugram: Pursuing their dream of climbing the Seven Summits (highest peaks in all seven continents) together, a Gurugram -based father-daughter duo will be the first Indian and Asian father-daughter team to attempt to climb the Mount Vinson peak, after having scaled Mt. Everest in May this year.

Dalmia Cement, with its mission to foster India’s best sport talent has empowered the father-daughter duo Ajeet and Deeya Bajaj for their next mountain climbing expedition to Mt. Vinson in Antarctica in December this year. The company has had a continued association with Indian sports, and has supported various sports initiatives. The Group believes in a philosophy to harness and build the power of professional sports so as to support the development of healthy communities.

On May 16, 2018, Ajeet and Deeya became the first Indian daughter- father team in the world to climb Mt. Everest from the North side. The duo unfurled the Tricolor atop Mt. Everest after climbing 8,848 meters in a month’s time. Ajeet also became the first Indian to ski to the North Pole and the South Pole within a year in 2006-2007. His daughter Deeya isn’t far behind in her achievements.

She has received her training at The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) in Uttarkashi. She undertook the 20-day-long Trans Greenland Skiing Expedition at the age of 17 and in 2012, went on to climb Mt Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe.

In 2008 they were a team as members of a sea kayaking expedition along the west coast of Greenland. Ajeet Bajaj, an adventurer and explorer, is the first Indian to have completed the Polar Trilogy, which comprises skiing to the North Pole, South Pole and across the Greenland Icecap. With over 30 years of experience in adventure sports, he is the first Asian to have rafted and kayaked some of the most challenging rivers spanning six continents.
