CM flags off pilgrimage train with 1,000 elderly people on board

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday flagged off a special train from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata and Kamakhya with 1,000 elderly pilgrims onboard under the Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra scheme.

The elderly pilgrims belong to five districts. Initiated in 2016 by the Odisha Tourism Department, the programme has so far benefitted 11,000 senior citizens of the State.

This scheme offers poor elderly persons to visit religious places across the country free of cost.

Around 11,000 senior citizens have so far traveled in 11 special trains from Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Balasore and Titlagarh in Odisha to Rameswaram, Madurai, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Rishikesh, Haridwarm Ajmer, Pushkar, Tirupati, Vellore, Shirdi, Nasik, Trimbakeshwar, Agra, Mathura, Fatehpur Sikri, Kolakat and Kamakhya.
