Bhubaneswar/Kandhamal: After BJD declared Achyuta Samanta as its candidate for Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat, sitting MP Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh on Tuesday said now she wants to contest from Nayagarh Assembly constituency and hinted at contesting election as an independent candidate if denied ticket.

“I want to contest from Nayagarh Assembly constituency, now. If ticket is denied to me by BJD, I will contest as an independent candidate or from any other party,” said Pratyusha. Nayagarh is now represented by BJD veteran Arun Sahoo.

In 2014, BJD candidate Hemendra Chandra Singh won with a sizable margin but after his untimely death BJD fielded Singh’s wife Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh who retained the seat in a by-election.

Pratyusha said she will consult with her constituents and will decide her future course of political action accordingly.
