Transported 7000 Tonnes of Parcel during lockdown: ECoR

Bhubaneswar: In the first quarter of current financial year – from April to June, 2020- the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has loaded 7,000 Tonnes of parcel that include 6160 Tonnes of essential commodities through Special Parcel Express Trains during the lockdown.

According to an ECoR statement, at least 31 Tonnes of medicine & 20 Tonnes of medical equipments were carried during this period. This includes many life saving medicines and samples to laboratories.

Parcel Trains played important role in maintaining necessary supply chain for edible items. At least 210 Tonnes of milk/dairy products and eggs were loaded and transported from ECoR jurisdiction.  Dry milk powder and Edible oil were also received in ECoR, it said.

This period became very critical for farmers as sending their produce to the market was a challenge. ECoR came forward to help them in these testing times. 4376 Tonnes of fruits and vegetables were transported to various markets safely and timely. This includes 4345 Tonnes of mango from Andhra Pradesh to markets in Delhi.

A total of 824 Tonnes of fish was also carried to consumption centres from coastal regions. Apart from this, 673 Tonnes of other essential commodities have been transported to different destinations.

During this period, 5240 Tonnes of parcel has been received in ECoR jurisdiction. This inward traffic comprises of Medical equipments, medicines, Cotton bags, PPEs, Hatching egg, Milk, it added
