New Delhi: Odisha-born IAS officer and former Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Saturday took oath as the new Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy to Murmu at the Rastrapati Bhawan in the presence of Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A former 1985-batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, Murmu had taken charge as J&K L-G on October 25 last year.
A native of Betnoti in Mayurbhanj district, Murmu is the first Odia to be appointed as the CAG. He was also first Odia to hold the post of Lt Governor. Murmu was born on November 21, 1959. His schooling was at Baripada. He also post-graduated from Utkal University in Political Science.
He had served as Principal Secretary to Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
