Sundargarh, September 25: To ensure safe and institutional delivery in hard-to-reach areas of Sundargarh, ‘Maa Gruha’ (Maternity Waiting Homes) are facilitated by the Sundargarh district administration.
The District Mineral Foundation (DMF) has extended funds for four centres at Gurundia, Koira, Lahunipara & Lephripara blocks.
The Maa Gruha facilities include Nutrition, Health Checkup and Counselling for the expecting mothers. Each centre is manned by health workers and other support staff. Here the women are brought in over 10 days prior to the expected date of delivery.
Maa Gruha functionaries work in close coordination with the health workers tagged to the target villages who identify the beneficiaries and bring them under the umbrella of benefits. The initiative helps to secure mother and child health in tribal and remote areas.
In the DMF sponsored Maa Gruha, mother and child are housed for a few days post delivery before sending them back home. Emphasis is given on educating the mother for breast feeding, personal hygiene along with taking care of her nutrition needs.
