Odisha sees record spike of 6,647 COVID-19 cases

Bhubaneswar, April 24: Odisha has reported as many as 6,647 daily new COVID-19 cases, 2,452 recoveries and eight deaths in the last 24 hours, informed the State Health Department.

The new cases detected in the past 24 hours were highest ever in a day, since COVID-19 hit the State.

Khurda reported highest 1,189 cases.

Of the total 6,647 cases, 3,855 cases were detected from among the quarantined people while 2,792 were local contacts.

These new cases have been detected in all the 30 districts of the State. This apart, 266 cases were reported from the State Pool.

With this, the total virus cases mounted to 4,01,341 with 43,304 active cases.

The State also recorded eight more casualties due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the virus toll to 1,981. Of the eight fatalities, two casualties were reported in Sundergarh district while one each reported in Balasore, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Bolangir and Cuttack districts.
