Top Maoist carrying Rs 20 lakh reward arrested in Odisha’s Koraput district

Bhubaneswar, September 14: Dubashi Sankar aka Mahesh, a hardcore Maoist, wanted in several serious offences, arrested by Odisha Police in Koraput on Monday night, informed DGP Abhay on Tuesday here. The Maoist was carrying Rs 20 lakh cash reward on his head.

“A joint team of Koraput District Voluntary Force (DVF), Special Operation Group (SOG), and Border Security Force (BSF) Dubashi Shankar alias Mahender alias Mahesh alias Ramesh alias Arun was captured from Boipariguda area of Koraput last night. He was nabbed while holding a meeting with followers. Dubashi was a top Maoist leader carrying Rs 20 lakh reward on his head,” informed the DGP in a press conference.

During the raid security personnel recovered an INSAS rifle, ammunition, phone and other incriminating materials from the held Maoist leader’s possession.

He had joined in Maoist organization in the year1987 in Indrapuriyal Area Committee, Telangana State as a party member. He was promoted to the rank of Special Zonal Committee member (SZCM) in 2003 and joined Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) in 2004. In 2010, he joined the State Military Commission (SMC) and continued till date in the same rank.

He was involved in two criminal cases in Koraput district, 18 in Malkangiri district. As many as 32 criminal cases are also pending against him in Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh followed by 24 in Telangana.
