Bhubaneswar, December 23: Two more cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 have been detected in Odisha, informed the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar on Thursday. With this, the total tally of Omicron in Odisha has mounted to four.
The presence of Omicron variant of the virus was confirmed in the two persons following genome sequencing of foreign returned persons, said the ILS. They have returned from Nigeria.
Earlier on Tuesday, Odisha reported the first cases of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus after two men – aged 41 and 43 and belong to Jagatsingpur and Khurda districts – who had returned from Nigeria and Qatar, tested positive for the new strain.
Around 1,600 have returned to Odisha from countries declared at-risk following the detection of the Omicron variant, sources said.
