Mass drug administration drive to end lymphatic filariasis in Odisha

Bhubaneawar, February 9: The State Health and Family Welfare Department will conduct mass drug administration drive from Friday in 10 districts in Odisha for elimination of lymphatic filariasis.

The districts are Balasore, Bhadrak, Bolangir, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Rayagada.

During this campaign, around 51,371 trained drug administrators, including ASHAs will visit every household in the 10 districts to ensure drug consumption to 1,36,06,948 beneficiaries.

A State-level media sensitisation workshop was organized in Bhubaneshwar by Health and Family Welfare Department in collaboration with Global Health Strategies on Thursday to facilitate comprehensive dissemination of information that highlights the debility caused by Lymphatic Filariasis.

Mass drug administration is a key component in addressing the disabling disease, where anti-filaria drugs (DEC and Albendazole) are administered to eligible population by trained health workers.
