Cyclone Dana makes landfall in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, October 25: Cyclone Dana has made landfall between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara district and Dhamara in Bhadrak, with wind speeds reaching around 110 kmph, causing intense rainfall and strong winds in various regions.

The cyclone’s landfall process started around midnight, affecting districts such as Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore, and Jagatsinghpur with heavy rainfall and wind speeds of 110 kmph.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the landfall process completed at around 9.30 AM.

No major damage or casualties have been reported but strong winds and heavy rains caused trees to be uprooted, blocking several roads in the Bhadrak and Balasore districts.

Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had inquired about the Odisha Government’s preparedness to handle the impending storm.

Under the influence of Cyclonic Storm Dana, heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Odisha and heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal.

“The cyclonic storm “DANA” moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 07 kmph and lay centred near latitude 21.4° N and longitude 86.6°E at 1130 hrs IST of today, the 25th October, over north coastal Odisha, about 40 km north-northeast of Bhadrak and 70 km north-northwest of Dhamara. It is likely to move nearly westwards across north Odisha and weaken gradually into a deep depression during next 06 hours,” said the latest IMD bulletin.
