Bhubaneswar, September 27: Former Odisha Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy has been elected as the new president of Bhubaneswar Club. Tripathy defeated former Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik by 278 votes.
While Tripathy, a 1986-batch IAS officer got 776 votes, Patnaik, a 1976-batch IAS officer managed to get 498 votes. The two bureaucrats after retiring from the Indian Administrative Service were locking horns for the post of president of Bhubaneswar Club.
Election for the top post was held for two days and results were declared today.
Tripathy is now serving as the Principal Advisor to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Western Odisha Development Council Chairman.
For the last decade or so, elections to 71-year-old Bhubaneswar Club were very dull affairs with its former president and former IAS officer Priyabrat Patnaik single-handedly running the show. He died last year after a long battle with liver cancer.
