Odisha to open 137 more schools for differently-abled kids

Sep 19: In a bid to ensure quality education and life for persons with
disabilities (PwDs), the Odisha Government on Monday decided to open 137 new
special schools to provide education to differently-abled children across the
State. The Government has already accorded in-principle approval for these
schools.
This was
revealed at a meeting held under chairmanship of Chief Secretary AP Padhi at
the State Secretariat here on Monday.
Padhi
directed the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities
Department to take all steps to provide best training to teachers by including experienced
trainers from private and voluntary organisations in this programme for quality
education in such schools.
Department
Secretary Niten Chandra placed details about teachers’ training for discussion.
Now, a total
of 92 schools are operating in the State for providing education to differently-abled
children. While 51 schools are being run with State Government’s funds, the
rest operating with Central assistance.
Among
others, Development Commissioner R Balkrishnan and Law Department Principal
Secretary Bibhuprasad Routray were present.
