Salesgirl, goldsmith arrested for jewel theft

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate
police on Friday arrested two persons, including a salesgirl of Lalchand
Jewllers where she has been working for last 12 years here, on the charge of
stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 80 lakh.
The accused salesgirl, identified as
Ranjita Nayak (33), a resident of Badagada Brit Colony here, and Puspa Ranjan
Sahu (40), a goldsmith and a resident of Jankia in Khordha were forwarded to
court on Saturday. 
According to the police, Lalchand
Jewllers director Ansuman Hans had lodged a complaint at the Kharbelanagar
police station on August 11 that some jewelleries of different designs weighing
about 2,160.66 grams worth Rs 80 lakh kept in different counters of his shop
are missing.
The complainant also mentioned that
he is suspecting Ranjita to have her hand in misappropriation of the missing
jewelleries.
“During investigation, Ranjita
confessed to her crime saying that she took away jewelleries from the shop in
different phases. She also admitted that she has mortgaged some of these
jewelleries in different banks and financial institutions like HDFC Samantarapur
Branch, Muthoot Finance with the help of jeweller Puspa Ranjan Sahu and availed
loan facilities,” said Kharbel Nagar police station IIC Nihar Ranjan Pradhan.
