‘Conditional’ nod to students’ union polls at Vani Vihar this year

Bhubaneswar, Sep 15: After a gap of two years, the Utkal
University authorities here on Monday decided to hold students’ union polls in
the premier institute this year but with a condition that it can cancel the election
process if any disturbances take place in the university campus before
September 29, the day of students’ union polls.

Decision to this effect was taken at the Post Graduate (PG)
Council meeting which was held under the Council Chairman Gopal Krushna Panda
wherein almost all the Head of the Departments of the varsity attended.
“The PG council decided to hold students’ union election in
the university after considering the circumstances prevailing in the university
since last few days. The elections will be conducted as per the guidelines of
the Lyngdoh Commission,” Panda added.
Meanwhile, banners and posters have started coming up outside
the university gate while the Commissionerate police intensified patrolling inside
the campus to maintain peace.
