Six goons arrested for robbery bid in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, October 1: The Quick
Action Team (QAT) along with Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police on
Wednesday arrested six goons, including a notorious criminal, while they were
planning a dacoity here near Laxmi Narayan Temple in Unit-4 area on Tuesday
night.
Police have seized a
country made revolver, three rounds of live ammunition, 2565 packets of
cigarette worth RS 4 lakh, 17 mobile phones, one gold locket, one gold ring,
two gold chains, 19.4 gm gold, two laptops, one TVS Apache motor cycle, one
Indica Vista Car and sharp weapons from their possession too.
The accused were
identified as Hemanta Dash (49) of Old Town area under Ligaraj police station,
P Rajesh Rao (21) alias Linga of Chintamaniswar and Pravat Kumar Parasad alias
Chhotu (28) of Haladipadia slum under Laxmisagar police station, Jitu Palai
(29) of Goutam Nagar slum under Badagada police station, Rabi Rao (19) of
Shantinagar area under Kharvelngar police station and Alekh Sahoo (26) of
Nuagaon under Chhendipada police station in Angul district.
They all were forwarded
to court.

Dr RP Sharma said that acting on a tip-off, the QAT and Special Squad raided a
deserted place near Laxminarayan Temple on Tuesday night and arrested six criminals
while one Sukadev Behera alias Suka (25) managed to flee from the spot.

“So far we have found
involvement of Hemanta in 65 cases like burglary in various police stations in
Bhubaneswar and also in Cuttack, Puri, Angul and Kendrapada districts while two
NBWs were also pending against him since last few years.  Similarly, other five persons have more than
two cases against him in various police stations in the State,” the CP added.
