Bhubaneswar, August 17: In a major jolt to the Odisha
Government, the Supreme Court on Monday quashed the special leave petition
(SLP) of the State challenging the June 19 High Court order quashing the
vigilance case against CRPF DG and former Odisha DGP Prakash Mishra.

A two judge bench consisting Justice J Chelemeshwar and
Justice Abhaya Manohar Sapre heard the case and quashed the SLP of the Odisha
Government. On August 13, lawyer on State Government panel Milind Kumar had
filed the SLP in the apex court challenging the High Court order. The apex
court had fixed August 17 for hearing.

Notably, State Vigilance Director KB Singh, in his FIR, had
charged Mishra with favouring some suppliers during his tenure as the CMD of
Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation between 2006-7 and 2009-10.

Mishra had challenged this move in the Orissa High Court seeking
quashing of the case. The court not only quashed the case, but also reprimanded
the Vigilance Director. “It’s not uncommon that honest and upright officers are
victimized by political establishments,” said justice SC Parija said in his
