Rare Egyptian Vulture sighted in Ganjam

Berhampur, July 28: In a surprise sighting, the
almost extinct Rare Egyptian Vulture was sighted in a small hamlet near Golanthara
on the outskirts of Berhampur city in Ganjam district.

Bird enthusiast and founder of Berhampur Birds Dr
Jyoti Prasad Pattnaik sighted these big birds near a field in Golanthara. This
vulture has been sighted from different parts of the state but this time there
are very clear shots of images of both mature as well as juvenile birds and
this is a good sign for the conservation of the same bird.

Since these birds are procreating it has sent a good
feeling amongst the bird lovers of Odisha that these birds may still be largely
present and may come out of the extinction category soon.
Dr Pattnaik, a doctor by profession has been
instrumental about conservation of birds and has created a group called
Berhampur Birds wherein he showcases birds from in and around Berhampur. In March
this year he had reported about the sighting of an Egyptian Vulture near
Bhetanai, in Ganjam district.
