Cuttack, Sep
16: At a time when Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was leaving for New Delhi to
attend a tripartite meeting on Mahanadi river water dispute, petitioner Barada
Prasanna Patnaik on Friday filed a miscellaneous case in the Orissa High Court
on Friday seeking to arraign Patnaik and Central Water Commission (CWC) as
additional opposite parties in his original PIL on the Mahanadi issue.
The
petitioner urged the court to issue notices to them.
Ashok
Mohapatra, the petitioner’s counsel said relevant documents in this regard
would be filed in the court soon appealing to it for issuance of notices to
these two additional opposite parties.
Earlier this
month, while adjudicating the PIL, the HC had served notices to the Odisha
Government and the Centre asking them to file their responses within ten days
on Mahanadi river water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The
petitioner who happens to be the convenor Mahanadi Bachao Manch, a body
fighting for the safety and protection of Mahanadi, had approached the court
challenging the inaction of the Odisha Government in restricting the
Chhattisgarh Government from constructing a slew of barrages upstream Mahanadi.
