Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: The State Government on Saturday signed
an agreement with CARE Hospitals for establishment of a super specialty cardiac
care hospital in Jharsuguda.

The agreement was signed by the officials of Health and
Family Welfare Department and CARE Hospitals in the presence of Chief Minister
Naveen Patnaik here at the State Secretariat.

This hospital in Jharsuguda would be a 100 bedded hospital
that would provide all supporting clinical specialisations and disciplines
necessary for cardiac care.

Maintaining that cardio-vascular diseases are emerging as one
of the biggest health risks, Patnaik said this project will specifically

This facility would be the first-of-its kind in western Odisha
with 50 per cent of its bed capacity earmarked for providing free treatment to
poor patients.

“With this project taking shape, the people of the area,
particularly economically weaker sections would not have to travel far to
access specialised cardiac care services,” Patnaik asserted.

The project is a unique public private partnership
arrangement whereby the State Government with the support of Mahanadi
Coalfields Limited is bearing the capital expenditure of Rs 75 crore for the

On the occasion, the CM advised the CARE Hospitals to
commence suitable outreach, and extension activities in Jharsuguda and
