Bhubaneswar, August 30, 2017: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik
on Wednesday flagged off four traffic interceptors and 30 motorcycles of
Commissionerate Police and also gave away smart phone to police officials of
senior citizen cell to strengthen policing, quick response and enforcement
mechanisms in the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The Chief Minister also handed over smart phone to each
police officer appointed as Nodal and Assistant Nodal officer at each senior
citizens cell in order to facilitate prompt response to the appeal of elderly
people.
“The motorcycles and smart phones for police personnel will
give a boost to Senior Citizen Security Cells in the police stations. They will
be able to respond to distress calls by senior citizens immediately and reach
them in quick time,” said Patnaik after flagging off the new initiatives at the
Commissionerate headquarters.
More than 10,000
senior citizens have been registered with these cells in Twin City.
The availability of traffic interceptors will strengthen
enforcement of traffic and road safety rules and will act as a check on
over-speeding and rash driving.

“My Government attaches greatest importance to safe and
secure environment for our citizens. I have personally directed police
administration to ensure rule of law and focus on protection of women,
children, senior citizens and weaker sections. They should work towards winning
trust of public by promptly attending to their problems and addressing them
effectively,” asserted the CM.
