Lanjigarh: Nearly 3,000 women from 60 villages participated in the ten-day long programme organised by the Lanjigarh unit of Vedanta Limited on Saturday. The event was organised to mark the International Women’s Day here in Kalahandi district.
The event witnessed activities and fun games, including Rangoli competition, tug of war were undertaken. In addition, an intensive two-day training programme was conducted for 36 Child Care Centre teachers in aligning them with best practices towards child care and teaching skills.
Vedanta chief operating officer Rakesh Mohan said the company is committed to ensure efforts in making an impact in the lives of women and keep empowering them.
Amongst others, many local Government officials, beneficiaries, opinion makers and leaders, attended the valedictory event. Vedanta also invited the world renowned Odissi Dancer, Shrimati Swapna Sinha, who along with her team, enthralled the audience with their performance.
In line with its community engagement outreach, Vedanta has been conducting this event for the past many years with great success. The event saw a 100% increase in presence this year over the last year and the company is only expecting this to increase. Over the course of the programme, women from eight panchayats who had participated in seven smaller events and contests conducted this year, were also awarded.
