Bhubaneswar: One person was killed and another one injured after the newly constructed roof of a building between Terminal-1 and Terminal-2 at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) collapsed late on Friday night here.
The deceased was identified as Antaryami Guru of Badamba-Narsinghpur area in Cuttack district. The deceased was a helper of truck engaged in the construction activities and the injured a driver.
The injured is undergoing treatment at the Capital Hospital here.
The incident occurred around 11 pm at night killing. After getting information, senior officials of the State Government, including Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena and politicians like Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister Ashok Chandra Panda rushed to the spot in the night and make to make sure no other person as trapped under the rubble.
However, flight operation was not hit.
The concrete roof of a passage linking Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 of the airport was reportedly being cast on Friday. The work had nearly been completed during the day and a few labourers were at work when the roof collapsed.
Meanwhile, Dillip Khatei, chief of construction firm Dillip Constructions Pvt. Ltd. has been detained for interrogation in connection with the mishap, informed Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo.
