Bhubaneswar: In order to maintain better sanitation and hygiene conditions in the State’s capital city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) with the help of Fire Services Department on Sunday launched a massive disinfection drive in 10 major daily markets and two containment zones by spraying sodium hypochlorite solution.
While three fire tenders and one small fire tender were engaged at the containment areas like Surya Nagar and Bomikhal, five fire tenders were deployed to sanitise 10 major daily markets – Unit-I Daily Market, Unit-4 Daily Market and Fish Market, Saheed Nagar Daily Market, Ruchika Daily Market, Indradhanu Daily Market, Damana Hata, Unit 3 Daily Market, Gandamunda Daily Market, BJB Nagar Daily Market and Maa Kochilei Daily Market, Rasulgarh, said an BMC release.
Other daily markets will be sanitised by spraying of disinfectants later, in a phase-wise manner. It said.
The civic body started spraying disinfectants at various establishments and public places on March 31.
Apart from the spraying of disinfectants, the civic body is also carrying out fogging activities across the city along with road cleaning, bush cutting and spraying of disinfectants in slums.
The City Health Office of BMC has chalked out a detailed plan in coordination with the COVID-19 control room to carry out the sanitization work through spraying disinfectants and fogging. The entire activity is being supervised by BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary and senior officials.
