Bhubaneswar: The Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar has been permitted to conduct COVID-19 testing.
ILS Director has informed Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal that the institute has got the permission of the Department of Biotechnology of the Central Government and the testing will commence next week.
“Director ILS Bhubaneswar has informed Principal Secretary Health @nbdhal that they have got permission of @DBTIndia to conduct COVID 19 testing. The testing will commence next week,” tweeted the H&FW Department.
Amid the spike in the novel Coronavirus cases, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on April directed the officials to increase testing capacity to at least 1,000 per day by April 10. At present, 300 samples are being tested every day in the State.
Patnaik directed officials to expedite the process of developing testing facilities at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur and VIMSAR, Burla at the earliest.
As of now, testing facilities are available at Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar, and SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack.
