Orissa HC cancels summer vacation to make up work loss due to Coronavirus

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court (HC) on Tuesday decided to suspend the ensuing summer vacation, if the lockdown is not extended beyond May 3 to make up for the loss of working hours due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic lockdown.

The High Court has also cancelled the summer break of subordinate courts in June this year.

“In view of the exigencies caused by Covid-19 and declaration of lockdown in the State of Odisha, the Court after due consultation with the Advocate general, Odisha and the president, Vice-President and the Secretary of the Orissa High Court Bar Association, have been pleased to suspend the ensuing summer vacation, 2020 of the Orissa High Court, if the lockdown is not extended beyond May 3, 2020,” said an order issued by the Orissa HC Registrar (Judicial).

In another notification, it has also stated that, “The ensuing summer vacation of the sub-ordinate courts will also be suspended if the lockdown is not extended beyond May 3.”

The Orissa High Court on March 23 virtually went into the lockdown to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
