Bhubaneswar October 19: Cancer has now become a ‘reportable disease’ in Odisha. The State Health and Family Welfare Department has issued a notification to this effect on Thursday.
“The Government of Odisha hereby order all persons concerned in Hospitals (Private or Public), Pathological, Clinical and Radiological Labs, Institutions imparting Medical Education and providing diagnostic treatment, Palliative Care and any other healthcare related facilities to mandatorily report diagnosed cases of cancer,” said the notification issued by the State Health and Family Welfare Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Shalini Pandit.
Estimation of Cancer burden and its distribution with respect to time place person is important to mobilise resources for prevention and control and reducing mortalities attributed to it. Prevalence of particular types of cancer in some geographical are needs proper attention. The Government of Odisha, after due consideration of the matter has also found it imperative that all diagnosed cancer incidences should be reported to the appropriate authority for early detection and treatment of disease.
“Odisha Government hereby declare with effect from 19th October, 2022 that “Cancer” is a “Reportable Disease” in the State of Odisha for the purpose and will be duly followed as per Govt Notification,” it stated.
In addition to that Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) has started in Khordha district of Odisha since 15th October, 2022 from NISER Bhubaneswar campus with support from Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
