TikTok video: Four nurses sent on compulsory leave in Odisha

Malkangiri: Acting tough on four young nurses after TikTok videos of them frolicking inside the special neonatal care unit (SNCU) of the Malkangari District Headquarters Hospital went viral on social media on Wednesday, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty on Thursday sent them on compulsory leave.

According to reports, the CDMO sent four young nurses – Nandini Ray, Ruby Ray, Tapasi Biswas and Jyoti Ray – on compulsory leave till completion of probe.

On Wednesday, the CDMO served show-cause notices to them after TikTok videos went viral.

In the videos, the nurses can be seen singing and dancing inside the newborn care unit in their uniforms. The hospitals beds and patients can also be seen in the videos. In one of the videos, a nurse holds up a newborn while popular Bollywood songs play in the background sparking widespread resentment on safety and security of the infants.

TikTok is a popular mobile application for creating and sharing videos. The app is available only on Android as well as iOS platforms.

Malkangiri has a high-rate of infant mortality. The tribal dominated backward district had made the headlines in November 2016, when over 103 children died of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES).
